National Lobster Day is a chance to discover more about these fascinating animals\, learn about the challenges facing our marine environment and find out how conservation\, research\, education and sustainable fisheries can help safeguard our seas for generations to come. \n\n\n\nSmall lobster. Big impact.\n\n\n\nThe European lobster is an important part of Cornwall’s marine environment\, fishing heritage and coastal economy. But like many commercially important marine species\, lobster populations face pressures from fishing\, environmental change and a changing ocean. \n\n\n\nFor more than 25 years\, The National Lobster Hatchery has been pioneering practical conservation alongside the fishing community. By carefully rearing juvenile lobsters and releasing them into the wild\, the Hatchery helps support local lobster stocks while also contributing to research into the science behind stock enhancement. \n\n\n\nNational Lobster Day is an opportunity to celebrate that work – and the many people who make it possible. \n\n\n\nFriday 25th September: National Lobster Day\n\n\n\n\nFREE ADOPTION for the first 10 visitors wearing lobster headwear (Friday only!)\n\n\n\nALL DAY: SOLSTICE Photography Exhibition by Mat Arney\n\n\n\n11am: Talk with resident Lobster Expert\n\n\n\n1pm: Larry Lobster Meet & Greet\n\n\n\n\nFriday 25th to Sunday 27th September\n\n\n\n\nALL DAY: SOLSTICE Photography Exhibition\n\n\n\nALL DAY: Lobster Trail. SUMMARY:Solstice Photography Exhibition
DESCRIPTION:Celebrate the seasons and explore the fascinating relationship between moon\, tide and lobster through this exhibition of a 6-year project  by photographer Mat Arney.\n\n\n\nOpens National Lobster Day: Friday 25th September 2026\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n“For the last five years\, I have been making “surfscape” images at my local beach at the minute of sunrise and sunset on the summer and winter solstices. \n\n\n\nI use long exposures and intentional camera movement techniques to create painterly images that blur the beach\, the waves\, and the clouds. The results capture the atmosphere and feeling on these key dates in our cycle of seasons.” \n\n\n\nVisit the Solstice Surfscape exhibition at The National Lobster Hatchery\, South Quay\, Padstow\, Cornwall\, UK. \n\n\n\nThe exhibition runs from September 25th 2026 until March 2027 and is included with admission to the Hatchery Visitor Centre.

DESCRIPTION:Easter 2027\, Dark Cornwall are expertly creating and curating Lore of the Deep\, in support of The National Lobster Hatchery.\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nLore of the Deep explores the convergence between the real creatures beneath our seas and the monsters\, beasts and beings we have imagined living alongside them for centuries.\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nLook forward to guest speakers and storytelling sprinkled throughout the Easter holidays to bring the experience to life even more!\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nAnd we want local artists to be part of it. \n\n\n\nDark Cornwall are inviting artists of all ages to take inspiration from the strange\, wonderful and occasionally downright bizarre creatures living beneath our seas. \n\n\n\nThis goes beyond the magnificent crustaceans\, but also enigmatic beasts like blennies\, anemones\, jellyfish\, nudibranchs\, and just about anything you can find lurking in a rockpool! \n\n\n\nThen you add a little dash of fantasy and folklore.
