We’re excited to share that one of our baby lobsters made a splash at the House of Commons on Monday 14th October. It was featured in a presentation by the Great South West partnership, which highlighted how our region can help tackle the UK’s food security challenges. While the presentation focused on the broader topic of sustainability, seeing our little lobster included shows just how important sustainable seafood is in these conversations.
The event was based on the Great South West Food Security Position Paper, a report showing how regions like ours can help keep the UK’s food supply secure through innovation and sustainable practices. With climate change and economic pressures growing, food security is more important than ever—and we’re proud to play our part.
At The National Lobster Hatchery, we’re all about making a positive impact. From working directly with local fishermen to partnering with hospitality businesses, we know that keeping our oceans thriving is a team effort. The berried hens (female lobsters carrying eggs) supplied by local fishers are a vital part of our conservation efforts, ensuring that we conserve the lobster populations for future generations.
Nicola O’Donnell, our COO, sums it up perfectly:
“Sustainability isn’t just a buzzword—it’s the backbone of everything we do. By working with local fishermen, businesses, and the community, we’re helping to protect the South West’s marine life while supporting the livelihoods that depend on it. Our baby lobsters might be small, but their impact on the future of seafood and food security is huge!”
