Our Lobsters are Famous

And the crowd goes wild…for baby lobsters!

We love lobsters in all stages of their life, but we never thought so many would fall in love with them too.

One cold and wet Monday morning in Padstow, we teamed up with Padstow Sealife Safari for a boat release of our latest juveniles out at sea. We packed up all our technical gear and headed out to sea, to release some lobsters and hopefully see some wildlife.

We wanted to film the release happening with all of our equipment, as well as a talk with our technicians to offer a personal touch for those interested, passionate or simply curious about lobsters. Not only was the footage fantastic, the Cornish weather was on our side, and once released we enjoyed a trip around the islands before heading home.

What a way to start the week with the Padstow Sealife Safari, definitely worth the 6am wake up call and the wet ride back to the office!

What we weren’t expecting was for a video of the release to go viral on TikTok with to date 1.8 million views and counting! We have been inundated with comments, queries and questions and have been astonished at how many people seem to be inquisitive about these amazing crustaceans.

Education is one of our main objectives here at the National Lobster Hatchery, on as big a scale as possible. So, learning that we had reached that many people all over the world from a short 22 second video, is incredible.
