The National Lobster Hatchery is delighted to welcome St Eval, the family-run Cornish candle and home fragrance company, as a corporate partner, bringing together two organisations with a shared appreciation for nature, a strong connection to Cornwall and a commitment to making a positive difference.
From the wild landscapes that inspire St Eval’s fragrances to the coastal habitats The National Lobster Hatchery works to protect, the natural world is at the heart of both organisations. This partnership celebrates the role that businesses can play in supporting their local communities, protecting the environment and helping create a more sustainable future.
Cornwall’s landscapes and wildlife are more than a beautiful backdrop. They are part of the region’s identity, economy and way of life.
Based in North Cornwall, St Eval has been crafting candles and home fragrances since 1993. Drawing inspiration from the surrounding coast and countryside, the company combines traditional candle-making skills with thoughtful innovation. Its values centre on caring for people and communities, preserving craft traditions and treading lightly on the earth.
Further along Cornwall’s coast, The National Lobster Hatchery works to protect the future of the native European lobster. Based in Padstow, the marine conservation, research and education charity raises young lobsters through their most vulnerable early life stages before releasing juveniles into suitable coastal habitats. Working alongside the fishing community, researchers and other partners, the Hatchery helps support sustainable lobster populations and the coastal communities that depend on them.
Although their work takes different forms, both organisations share a deep connection to Cornwall and a belief that caring for the natural world is an important part of building a better future.
A shared commitment to responsible business makes this partnership particularly meaningful.
St Eval became a Certified B Corporation in 2022, recognising its commitment to high standards of social and environmental performance, accountability and transparency. In 2026, the company announced that it was among the first UK businesses to certify under B Lab’s new standards, reflecting its continued commitment to raising the bar for responsible business.
For St Eval, this commitment is reflected in its approach to manufacturing, its connection with the local community and its ongoing work to reduce its environmental impact.
At The National Lobster Hatchery, positive impact is at the heart of the charity’s mission. Through practical conservation, scientific research and education, the team works to safeguard vulnerable lobster populations, support sustainable fisheries and inspire more people to care about the marine environment.
Partnerships with businesses that share these ambitions help the Hatchery continue its work and build wider support for marine conservation.
The European lobster plays an important role in Cornwall’s marine environment and ecology, fishing heritage and coastal economy. However, lobster populations face pressures from fishing and environmental change, making long-term conservation and responsible fisheries management increasingly important.
For more than 25 years, The National Lobster Hatchery has pioneered a practical approach to conservation, working with fishermen to care for egg-bearing female lobsters, rear their offspring and release young lobsters back into the sea.
The charity has released hundreds of thousands, of juvenile lobsters, into Cornish waters and beyond. Each release represents another small step in a much bigger effort to support the future of lobster populations and the people whose livelihoods are connected to them.
Support from corporate partners helps sustain this work, alongside the Hatchery’s research, education and public engagement programmes. It also helps bring marine conservation to a wider audience, connecting businesses and communities with the science and stories behind healthier seas.
At its heart, this partnership is about shared values and the positive difference that can be made when organisations work together.
By supporting The National Lobster Hatchery, St Eval is helping champion a future in which Cornwall’s marine environment, wildlife and coastal communities can continue to thrive.
The Hatchery is proud to welcome St Eval to its growing community of corporate supporters and looks forward to celebrating this shared commitment to nature, sustainability and positive change.
A huge thank you to the St Eval team for supporting our work to protect, pioneer and inspire.
