Celebrating 25 years in 2025
This year sees The National Lobster Hatchery celebrate its 25th anniversary. To celebrate this milestone the team will embark on ‘The Releasathon’ – the challenge of 25 lobster releases in 25 locations over 25 consecutive days during May and June.
This target, although ambitious, will include collaborations with many of the people and organisations that have supported the charity over the past two and a half decades.
Lobster logistics are already well under way, with our fishers hard at work catching egg bearing lobsters ready to hatch and the NLH team using their expertise to prepare the lobsters and assess the best locations. Planning to coordinate boat, dive and shore release teams and liaising with stakeholders will be essential to make sure everything runs smoothly.
It will be hugely rewarding to collaborate with many of the hatchery’s friends, and in doing so provide another generation of lobsters to Cornwall’s coastal waters!
The challenge kicks off on the Isles of Scilly on 19th May. Keep up to date with all things Releasathon over on our social media pages! @PadstowLobster on Instagram & Facebook. Let the Releasathon commence!
