Lobster Love: Wright Brothers Sea Change Foundation

We are proud to announce that The National Lobster Hatchery has been selected as one of the maritime charities supported by the Wright Brothers Sea Change Foundation — a partnership that represents a shared passion for protecting the future of our oceans and coastal communities.

Founded by seafood restaurateurs and sustainability advocates Ben and Robin Hancock, The Wright Brothers Sea Change Foundation was created to support organisations working to improve ocean health, champion sustainable fishing practices, and preserve marine ecosystems for future generations. Their support of the National Lobster Hatchery recognises the importance of practical, science-led conservation work in safeguarding the future of our seas.

Speaking about the Foundation’s mission, Ben and Robin said:

“We’re working directly with those who manage the challenges our seas face, to help identify solutions that could assist in protecting the marine environment and its eco-systems for years to come.”

At the National Lobster Hatchery, collaboration has always been central to our work. From supporting sustainable fisheries and engaging local fishing communities, to pioneering lobster stock enhancement and marine education, we believe long-term ocean recovery can only be achieved by working together.

This new partnership with the Wright Brothers Sea Change Foundation will help strengthen and expand our conservation efforts at a critical time for marine ecosystems.

Supporting Healthier Oceans

Based in Padstow, Cornwall, the National Lobster Hatchery has spent more than two decades working to protect vulnerable lobster populations through conservation, research, and education. Every year, thousands of juvenile lobsters are raised at the Hatchery before being released into coastal waters to help strengthen wild stocks and support sustainable fisheries.

Healthy lobster populations are not only important for biodiversity, but also for the livelihoods of coastal communities that depend on the sea. As environmental pressures continue to impact marine ecosystems — including climate change, habitat loss, and ocean pollution — organisations like the National Lobster Hatchery play an increasingly vital role in developing practical solutions for long-term sustainability.

By supporting charities and projects directly connected to marine conservation, the Wright Brothers Sea Change Foundation is helping create meaningful environmental impact where it matters most.

A Shared Vision for Coastal Communities

Both organisations share a strong belief that thriving oceans and thriving communities go hand in hand. The National Lobster Hatchery works closely with fishers, researchers, schools, volunteers, and supporters to inspire greater understanding of marine conservation and encourage positive action for the environment.

Nicola O’Donnell, Chief Operating Officer at The National Lobster Hatchery, welcomed the partnership:

“We are incredibly proud to have been selected as one of the Wright Brothers Sea Change Foundation’s supported charities. Their commitment to safeguarding our seas and supporting coastal communities closely aligns with our own mission at the National Lobster Hatchery. This partnership will help us continue our vital conservation work, inspire greater awareness of marine sustainability, and ensure healthier oceans for future generations.”

The partnership will also help raise awareness of the importance of sustainable seafood, responsible marine stewardship, and the need for continued investment in conservation-led initiatives.

Looking Ahead

As awareness grows around the challenges facing our oceans, partnerships like this demonstrate the power of collective action. By bringing together charities, businesses, scientists, and local communities, meaningful progress can be made toward protecting marine life and preserving healthy seas for generations to come.

The support of the Wright Brothers Sea Change Foundation will contribute directly to the National Lobster Hatchery’s ongoing work in lobster conservation, public engagement, and marine sustainability projects. It also represents an exciting opportunity to connect with new audiences who are passionate about protecting the ocean and supporting practical environmental solutions.

Every juvenile lobster released, every educational conversation started, and every partnership formed helps move us closer to a more sustainable future for our seas.

We are hugely grateful to Ben and Robin, and everyone at the Wright Brothers Sea Change Foundation, for believing in our mission and supporting the future of marine conservation.

Together, we can help ensure healthier oceans, stronger marine ecosystems, and thriving coastal communities for generations to come.
